Meet the Maker
The owner and proprietor of Flotsam and Jetsam Goods, Jennifer White, washed ashore on Cape Cod in 1986 with her daughter and a dream to start a new, better life for her family.
She spent her time enjoying all the beauty and wonder that Cape Cod had to offer while building a career in the service industry. It was in the many venerable dining establishments of Cape Cod that she was able to fine tune her business acumen, her love of creating something out of nothing and making people happy.
In 2018, Jennifer embarked on a new journey away from the service industry and created Flotsam and Jetsam Goods. She had always had a great "eye" for design and loved creating and working on projects she could call her own.
And so began the passion that evolved into Flotsam and Jetsam Goods. She began selling jewelry and sculptures that had been created from items cast off from the sea and repurposed vintage vessels (hence the origin of the name "flotsam and jetsam"). While she loved the formative days of her creations and still has a passion for collecting sea glass and vintage treasures she knew that she wanted to create a product that could be universally enjoyed by all.
And so, Flotsam and Jetsam Goods line of soy wax candles was born. With scents for any season, any mood, cozy gatherings or when you just want your space to smell good. She has created what has turned into a line with an almost cult following with many repeat customers ordering multiples of their favorite scents and waiting patiently for seasonal scents to become available again.
What does Flotsam and Jetsam mean?
"Flotsam and Jetsam" is the nautical term for unwanted debris from the ocean, the forgotten bits that the sea holds onto from shipwrecks and eventually returns to us.
The name "Flotsam and Jetsam Goods" plays with the idea of taking the cast offs, the unwanted or forgotten things, and making them into something useful, beautiful and desired.
Whether it's combing the shore for lost or forgotten treasures, wandering along a woodsy trail through cedar groves, working in your garden or simply lounging the day away on a sunny beach with a good book or perhaps celebrating the wonder of the "Off Season" these candles will bring you right back to time spent enjoying the magic that is life on Cape Cod.
